In Which I Need Your Help

January 1st, 2006

Shaws/Star Market felt the need to install lots and lots of TVs throughout their stores. These TVs remain mostly unwatched. This is sad. This free entertainment goes woefully neglected. I fear that if customers don’t start paying attention to these screens, they’ll take them out of the stores. I don’t know about you, but I cannot bear to think about a world where you can’t watch TV in the supermarket.

That’s why I’m gathering as many people as possible to watch the TVs at a Shaws/Star I need your help! To make this work, we need a whole bunch of people.

Depending on the number of people that show up, we’ll either
1) All slowly congregate around the biggest TV in the front of the store

or

2) Set up groups at each of the TVs

Then…we watch TV, discuss the programs, take notes, pull staffers aside to ask what aisle these products are in, get annoyed because other customers are jostling us or talking too loudly to hear it. Or anything else you can come up with.

If the crowd is huge, I’d love to place people in the checkout lanes who will keep letting people get in front of them because they just can’t take their eyes off the screen.

Most stores don’t allow photography, but if you’ve got a mini-video camera that’s easily hidden, that would be great.

We’ll do it on Saturday 1/7/2006 at noon. If you’re interested, email me at hbeeinc _at_ gmail _dot_ com and I’ll email you the location. It’s accessible by the T, so don’t worry about that.

Oh, this’ll be fun!

(Adam, can I whore a link out of you for this?)

Link pimped! I’d suggest the Star Market on Rte. 1 (or whatever they call it these days) in Dedham. It’s the biggest, badassiest Star around – plenty of aisle room for even the largest mob (they’ve got a humungous TV right in the aisle just past the deli counter). Plus: when you’re done, you can take a tour of their mile-long freezer aisle, the one in which every single freezer door is topped by a sign with an exclamation point (Pasta! Pasta! Pasta! Pasta! Hispanic! Hispanic! Kosher!)
