Well, it certainly is a dangerous hate group, and they need to be monitored by those of us who are concerned citizens. If you hear anything that even resembles a threat against the President or any Congress person, you should contact the Secret Service at once! Also watch for "gun talk" even from the callers. Surely that kind of rabble rousing should be against the law. There is, of course, nothing that can be done about the lies they tell. That is just a matter of free speech, but anything that lends itself to violence is another matter. Perhaps someday law enforcement will recognize the difference between freedom of speech and hate rhetoric that leads to violence. Then these kinds of people will not be allowed to pollute the airwaves. Hopefully that day will be soon!

Poor old Howse has no idea how stupid he sounds. He was talking about Mdm. Blavatsky and called her Mdm. Belinsky throughout the program. He's lucky that most of his audience is even dumber than he is, and they believe that he knows what he's talking about. Ignorance and hate-mongering is his hallmark!! We need to keep an eye on these people, and eventually they will cross a line - and then they can be prosecuted for instigating a hate-crime. It's only a matter of time.

We need to watch them closely, because eventually they will cause some mental case to commit a hate crime, and at that time we should all demand that they be held responsible for their part in the crime. It's only a matter of time, because their audience is made up of some very unstable people. You can tell that from the phone calls.

I honestly think the only way to shut them down is to call them every show. Challenge them on the air. Jam their phone lines so that every other call is someone pointing out the lie du jour. Pushing their on their lies and its relationship to "bearing false witness".

If I had a lawyer, I would try to get their camp shut down on the basis of the very real threat of child abuse. In a perfect world, I'd put their "inerrant word of God" bullshit to the test.

The people broadcasting Crosstalk are terribly BAD people. Today's rhetoric only encourages violence against gays and lesbians, for which they will take no responsibility when it happens. The whole program is nothing but hate-mongering. What can be done to stop this kind of egregious behavior and vile use of the airwaves???

The best thing about that survey is that it's already filled out with the correct answers! Which gives me an idea to do a survey that you *can't* change the answers to!

Nice post. Of course, anyone who actually bothers to read the Bible knows that God actually admits several times he is fallible. I won't actually list where (hint, it's in the Tanakh--I doubt they even know what that is) because I'd like to have them actually read those books, even if they can be dreadfully boring. Hey, it's more fun to bash gay people and make up fake moral surveys like this one:

http://traditionalvalues.us/moralitysurvey1.aspx?pid=gb4&gclid=CLuPhPn6vKICFRMNDQodsSk75Q

Paul, the plain fact of the matter is--and I know you know this but I can't help but stress this--that these people only use religion of any kind as a tool to further their own agenda. It has no basis in any morality--it's just a way for homophobic, xenophobic, and utterly bigoted people to claim that they're adhering to a higher authority and they can't be responsible for what they believe in.

And that's really what's at the crux of it: responsibility. Do you know about all of the court cases surrounding Prop 8 out of California? A lot of the witnesses for the pro-Prop 8 people are refusing to testify about their beliefs because they fear revenge and threats. Can you believe this? They're cowards who hide behind some bogeymen and claim that they fight for the American way.

They can't take responsibility for their hateful beliefs, and they know that most people can see right through it. So they build a morality around it by burrowing religion (because this is what God says--we have to do what he says or we face eternal damnation) so that they can claim that they're the ones who are being wronged. The gays are undermining traditional marriage! They want to adopt kids and teach them their gay ways! They're encroaching upon traditional American values by demanding special rights!

In reality, these people are using these things as tools to repress and oppress a segment of the population they find distasteful. Strip all of the "American values" and "God" talk away and you have nothing more than a hateful, vindictive, and completely arbitrary set of beliefs based on some irrational fear.

Seriously. I can't think of anything other than an intense, irrational type of fear or paranoia that would drive people to think that the Christian God and movement conservatism are compatible.

Paul, when you're right, you're very right.

These are very astute observations, and they really do go to the heart of these people. I can only ask how you put up with this. I get so frustrated after so many failed attempts at getting through to them that I just throw up my hands in frustration and scream obscenities at them.

Lately I've been really taking it to Randriods and Objectivists. No matter how you frame the argument or what proof you bring to them, they can only argue that you either 1) didn't understand St. Ayn's philosophy so you can't make an honest attempt to debate it 2) have an anti-Rand agenda and argue dishonestly 3) lie about Ayn Rand's philosophy and use "ad homs" against her character to argue she was (correctly) a sociopath--especially if you bring up William Edward Hickman.

Seriously. It takes a special kind of person to follow a philosophy that is only valid in shitty fiction because it doesn't work in real life.

And watch them try to spin their little mental wheels in the mud trying to defend the rape scenes in AS and The Fountainhead.

What the hell is wrong with these people?
